1908-09 U.S. Automatic Vending Machine Co. Ticket Coupon Pockets, 5 different coupon pockets, each bearing two 1¢ Franklin and one 2¢ Washington issues, Very Fine and rare.
Scott No. 331-332    Estimate $300 - 400.

The U.S. Vending Machine Co. made a ticket selling machine for the N.Y. subway, but the deal fell through. In order to use of the machines, they made advertising pouches and enclosed stamps, which were sold for face value. The pouches where used as coupons for merchandise in sums of 5¢ to $5. The machines were used at post offices in N.Y. and Washington.

1909, $1 violet brown, o.g., very lightly hinged, perfectly centered amid wide evenly balanced margins all around, deep intense color, a Superb gem, a truly remarkable example of the 1909 $1 Washington issue, with two example to grade as such with none higher; with 2014 P.S.E. Graded certificate (Gem 100).

1909, 4¢ orange brown, imperf, top margin single with part imprint, o.g., never hinged, immense margins showing adjacent stamps around, fresh with strong bright color, a Superb jumbo gem.
Scott No. 346    $29.

A recent sale (11/19/2013) of the 4¢ Imperf. graded PSE 100, which showed large margins but no portions of adjoining stamps was sold for $350 + 15% buyer's premium. This immense jumbo would certainly grade 100J.
