French Colonies, 1859, 10c bister, horizontal strip of 5, margins ample to just in, tied by mute lozenge cancels on folded letter sheet to Castres, France, clear "St. Pierre, Ile Reunion, 6 Oct, 1862" origin cds and red Colonial transit cds, reverse with French transit and receiving postmarks; strip with light internal wrinkle, otherwise Very Fine, a rare strip of 5 paying single rate to France from Reunion. Scott Nos. 3.

Madagascar, 1891 5Fr Violet and black on lilac, large margins all around, strong color on fresh paper, cancelled by neat centrally struck "Tomatave, 24 Mar 92" cds, Very Fine and choice, an attractive and completely sound used example of this scarce high value, ex-Gibraltar, Gross; signed A. Brun and accompanied by 2000 Behr certificate.
Scott Nos. 13    $1,275.

Most used examples of this stamp are thinned or otherwise faulty due the the softness of the paper, so to find a sound used copy such as this is rare indeed. Only 1,000 stamps were printed.

Madagascar, 1895 Thick "15" handstamped surcharge on 25c Black on rose, Majunga provisional, surcharge mostly washed off as nearly always, well centered, cancelled by cds; expertly repaired at bottom right corner, Very Fine appearance, ex-Gibralter, Gross; signed Bernichan and Calves.
Scott Nos. 22C    $12,750.

Only a tiny number of this rare provisional have survived, all of which are used and virtually all of which have faults to some degree.
