San Francisco, Cal., Jun 27, 1860 (San Francisco), bold sharp cds (SAF-530) on incoming double rate folded letter from Iquique, Peru, with "Yquio" dotted origin postmark and blue crayon "40" rate, "Panama, My 22, 1860" transit and "Missent" handstamp applied at the San Francisco post office, Very Fine and choice, a scarce usage bearing the rare San Francisco "Missent" marking.

May 1860 (San Francisco), cds ties 3¢ dull red (26), s.e. at right and rounded corner, on cover to Sacramento Cal. with illustrated 4-Horse Stagecoach design with manuscript lines thru "Per Overland Mail" and stamp positioned over "Via Los Angeles" routing, Very Fine, Very Fine, a rare intra-California use of this illustrated envelope, especially interesting with sender's obvious effort to change its meaning, ex-Kutz.

Carr.

Pkt., 23, Apr 12" transit cds and "2" debit handstamp, various manuscript accountancy and Aachen transit backstamp, Very Fine, a very scarce early foreign mail usage from Shasta.

Silver Mountain, Cal., Sep 15 (Alpline), complete cds (ALP-230) on cover addressed to Copperopolis "via Murphy Camp" in Calaveras County (This would have taken this cover over Ebbetts Pass - elevation 8730'), franked with 1861, 3¢ rose (s.e. left and bottom) tied by circle of wedges handstamp; cover slightly reduced at right, otherwise Very Fine.

"Smiths flat: 5 Juni 1859", dateline on folded letter with manuscript "Downieville" postmark addressed to Peter Moller and Christ Lind, North Fork of the Feather River, County of Plumas, Cal., interesting miner content…my cousin, Lorenz, arrived here three weeks ago, healthy and enthusiastic. But because he did not especially like our tunnel, he preferred to stay here in this area just temporarily for a month, since it might be a long time yet before we get an payment out of our claim, because we have to make 4300 more feet of new tunnel… I broke two ribs in my chest and my right arm was so badly hurt that I cound't move it for 8 days, and my head was so swollen almost double. But now I'm already pretty well back to normall and… Prospecting is not not good here in this region, as almost all rivers and creeks have been worked already, and since prospecting here is bound up with significant expenses at the banks, a person can sometimes buy into a claim here cheaply"; stained, some separations, Fine (no photo).
