Sonora, Cal. (Tuolumne), red cds (TUO-1380) with matching fancy boxed "Paid" and 3 rate handstamps, on folded letter sheet to Sacramento, Very Fine and choice, an attractive and very scarce postmark in red, ex Haas.

Stockton, Cal., Mar 19 (San Joaquin), blue cds (SAJ-2310) with matching oval "12½" intra-California rate handstamp on 1851 folded letter to "Sonora, U.C.", letter datelined "Owen's Ranch, Tuolumne, March 15, 51" with interesting comment from miner…I know a beautiful place in the mountains for a farm and mill, but unless a man could conciliate the indians by marrying two or three squaws, or otherwise he could not stay there., Very Fine, illustrated in Coburn's Letters of Gold (page 41).

May 3 (San Joaquin), four strikes of cds tie 1¢ blue, type IV (9), strip of six and strip of three, on orange cover to Windsor, N.C., upon arrival forwarded to Merry Hill with blue "Windsor N.C. Jun 4" cds and manuscript "for 3cts" due rating; some faults including one 1¢ stamp appears missing at top right although possibly paid in cash, purple owner's handstamps, Fine and scarce franking.

Sweetwater, Calif., Apr 6, 1926 (Mono), purple cds and bar duplex (MON-1000) tying 2¢ Harding on cover to Oakland, Cal, Very Fine, very rare, this being the only recorded example of a postal mark from this ghost town, Sweetwater was located on the Nevada border and the Post Office was open for about three years.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Yreka, Cal., March 8 (Siskiyou), manuscript postmark (SIS-4090) with matching "5" rate on cover to San Francisco, Cal., with original enclosure datelined "Indian Creek, Feb 26th/55" from miner working claim in the area, gives travel information how to get to him, Very Fine and scarce, manuscript postmark known to be used for a short time between January 4th, 1854 and March 13th., 1855.
Estimate    $150 - 200.
