Hunter & Co's Express, embossed blue cameo with "Hunter & Co's Express to & from all parts of El Dorado & Placer Counties, American Rivers, & Sacramento City, connecting with Adams & Co. to San Francisco, Atlantic States & Europe" on orange buff cover to Elkhart Ind., partial "Placerville Cal. Sep. 21" cds and matching "10" rating handstamp at top right; minor erosion in cameo and other cover faults, F.-V.F.

Lamping & Co.'s Express, Downieville, light strike of blue oval handstamp on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to San Francisco with printed company frank at left, conjunctive use with blue "Wells, Fargo & Co., Marysville, Jul 31" oval handstamp, Extremely Fine, Lamping's Express (successor to Langton) served the Downieville mining region and connected with Wells, Fargo & Co. at Marysville.

Langton's Pioneer Express, Downieville, clear strike of red oval handstamp on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire to San Francisco, Cal., black company frank at top left, in conjunction with blue "Wells, Fargo & Co., Marysville, Oct 27" where it was handed over from transmission to S.F., Very Fine and choice, a choice strike of the Langton's Downieville handstamp.

Nevada, Washington & Omega Express, black printed frank (NEW-001) on 1870, 3¢ green entire (U82) addressed to San Jose, Cal., with blue "Wells Fargo & Co., Nevada, Cal." date stamp applied across indicia indicating Wells Fargo carried it from Nevada City to San Jose, Extremely Fine, very rare with Only Three Examples of This Very Rare Express Are Known on two very similar frank types, this being the best example of the type 1 frank recorded.
Estimate    $4,000 - 6,000.

Pacific Express Co., Gold Hill, blue oval handstamp (PAC-103) with "May 4" manuscript date plus "Paid" manuscript notation on 1853-55 3¢ Nesbitt entire to San Francisco, also with "Pacific Express Co., Placerville" red double-lined oval handstamp (PAC-103a) and "Paid" red box handstamp as frank, envelope evidently sold in Placerville but sent from Gold Hill, Very Fine, used at Gold Hill which is located about five miles northeast of Placerville and carried to San Francisco, the U.S. Post Office never had an office at Gold Hill, two examples of the very rare Gold Hill mark are known - one in red and this example in blue, the Placerville is equally rare with this being the only recorded example.

Pacific Express, Spanish Town, blue oval handstamp on 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Marysville, horse & rider frank at upper left, with embossed Merchant Hotel corner card on back flap; small edge tears and corner nick at bottom right, F.-V.F., very rare, this being the only recorded example of this rare Butte County location.

Pacific Union Ex. Co., Sant. Clara, Apr 22, clear cds on 1864, 3¢ pink entire to San Francisco, red ribbon (PAU-001) frank at top; back flap missing, otherwise Very Fine, this is one of only a few Pacific Union towns that used a black colored handstamp.
