Wells Fargo & Co., Ontario, Cal., purple express handstamp on 1893, 2¢ Columbian entire (U349) with a "Los Angeles, September 10, 1893" receiving handstamp; back flap reattached, Very Fine, it is believe that only two examples of the Ontario handstamp are known.

Wells Fargo & Co., Paid, red printed Wells Fargo frank (WFE-031) on an 1861, 10¢ green entire (U40), unused example of a frank type that is found with the surcharge omitted (Boise Mines) below the frank; pieces out of top and taped at left, about Fine appearance, only two examples are known to exist with the missing surcharge.

Wells Fargo & Co., Paid, Through Our California And Atlantic Express, black printed frank (WFE-042a) located top left side of an unused 1864, 3¢ pink entire (U58) envelope, exceptionally fresh, Extremely Fine, only two examples of this frank type have been recorded on the three cent entire, the other is found on a used envelope to San Francisco.

Wells Fargo & Co., Pomona, Ca., purple oval date stamp on 1890, 2¢ green entire (U311) to Los Angeles, black printed frank WFE-060, Los Angeles 1893 receiving mark is present over indicia; stained on back and is present on front, Fine appearance, two or three examples of the Pomona 16-23 are believed to exist.

Providence is a ghost town that was located in the eastern Mojave Desert.

Wells Fargo & Co., Sacramento, blue oval handstamp on fresh 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire to San Francisco, with Blue Coast Frank printed at upper left, Very Fine and rare, this is the Only Recorded Example of a Blue Frank Printed At the Upper Left of an Entire, ex Metkin.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

It is speculated that the blue frank designated special carriage on the Sacramento River steamboats, because Wells Fargo's handstamped "Steamboat" markings cease to appear at just the time when the blue franks come into use.
