Southern Express Company and Texas Express Company, green printed frank (Haller FS8) on 2¢ brown entire postmarked by "New Orleans La., Feb. 10, '88" duplex datestamp, originated west of the Mississippi River (in Texas) and entered regular mails in New Orleans for Lawrence, Kansas; reduced at left with small missing piece of sideflap, otherwise Very Fine, extremely scarce frank from this 1880's express between Texas and the Gulf States.

(Wells Fargo & Co.) Eagle Pass, Texas, two strikes of purple origin straight line handstamp on 1890 2¢ entire (U311) with green Mexican frank (WFM-038), to Monterey, Mexico, accompanied by piece with oval company handstamp from Eagle Pass, Very Fine.
Estimate    $100 - 150.

In 1882 the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railroad extended to the border at Eagle Pass and went on to connect with Mexican National Railroad at Piedras Negras making Eagle Pass an important international center for the southwest.

Wells Fargo & Co., El Paso, Texas, March 2, 1894, purple oval date stamp (type 17-19) used with black printed frank type WFE-060 on 2¢ green entire (U311) carried entirely by Wells Fargo from El Paso, Texas to San Jose, Cal., with rare complete purple Wells Fargo San Jose Depot type 20-3 datestamp on reverse; entire reduced slightly at right with small tear into indicia, otherwise Very Fine, the San Jose mark is believed to be the finest example recorded.
