Nagasaki, Japan 4-Petal Cancel (Frajola NAG-Can3), strong strike on 30¢ ultramarine & carmine (121), rich colors, a Very Fine strike of this rare cancel.

AN EXTREMELY RARE NAGASAKI 4-PETAL CANCEL ON THE 30¢ 1869 ISSUE.

There is only one cover recorded with this rare cancel dated July 3, 1870 from Nagasaki to Shanghai (ex-Juhring) bearing 3¢ 1869 issue pair. The philatelic foundation has certified only two other off-cover examples, one 10¢ and one 30¢ 1869 issue singles. This stamp appears to have originally formed a pair with the certified 30¢ value.

THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED STRIKE OF THIS CANCEL ON A HIGH VALUE BICOLOR 1869 ISSUE STAMP.

We note this distinctive Nagasaki "N" cancel on 1869 issue values up to the 12¢, including the unique cover bearing an 1869 issue franking that brought $38,500 in 2004.

Negative "US", perfect bold strike duplexed with "Shandaken N.Y. Sep 18" balloon style cds on cover to Leslie, Mich., original 1865 enclosure accompanies; reduced slightly at right, trivial tone specks, an Extremely Fine gem strike. Skinner-Eno Nos. PT-US 26.

This cancel is unattributed in the Skinner Eno book on page 195. This gem strike is far superior to the Skinner tracing.
