Circular Grid - 8 Section, two strikes tie two 10¢ brown (161) singles, rich color, on immaculate 1874 cover to Amsterdam, endorsed "Per 'Hansa' ", red "New York Paid All Br Transit Feb 21" exchange cds, Amsterdam (3.6.74) arrival backstamp, fresh and Very Fine, ex-Van Vlissingen & Waud, Weiss.
Weiss Nos. TR-G23    Estimate $400 - 600.

ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED TR-G23 COVERS, BOTH WERE USED ON THE SAME DAY.

Carried on NGL Line "Hansa" that departed New York on February 21 and arrived at Southampton on March 5, 1874.

Lot 1100    

Cross Roads, contrasting strike in red ties 12¢ blackish violet (162), s.e. at left, on 1874 cover to London, England, matching "New York Paid All Jul 21" exchange cds, red London (8.3.74) arrival cds, clean and Very Fine.
Weiss Nos. TR-C1    Estimate $400 - 600.

The 12¢ postage prepaid the 6¢ treaty rate plus 6¢ supplementary mail fee. The cover was carried on the Guion Line "Wisconsin" that arrived at Queenstown on August 2, 1874. This correspondence is from Mary Fairfax Morris (1848-1924), the grand-daughter of Governor Morris, and Alfred J. Davenport who she married sometime in 1874 in England. Morrisania was part of their family land.

There are only a few supplementary mail letters recorded that did not receive a "Supplementary Mail" datestamp or handstamp. The red cancelling ink was used only on this service.

Cross-Roads, duplexed with "New York Mar 30" cds ties well centered 3¢ green (147) strip of four, on 1871 blue cover to Trinidad at the 10¢ American packet rate, red "New-York May 30" exchange cds, British "4d" colonial credit handstamp and blue crayon "5" for inland postage due, reverse with St. Thomas and Trinidad (4.22.71) arrival cds; reduced at left, Very Fine and scarce use.

Hamonia via Hamburg", partial red New York 'Paid 12' exchange cds also ties stamps, Hamburg and Rehau (11.17) backstamps, flag with Heinrich & Sommer Mfg. of Coal and Oil, a Very Fine three-color Black Jack franking at the 15¢ Bremen-Hamburg rate, ex-Fosdyke-Ray, Richards.
