Dec 31 1907" duplex, partial San Francisco (1.6) backstamp and "Missent to San Francisco, Cal. / Second Notice" handstamp on front with registry label affixed, then sent to New York with Jan. 11th backstamp and New York, N.Y. registry FX-NY1a(i)(i) label affixed, received and held in Ecuador until July and then readdressed to Richmond, Va. via Washington D.C. (8.12); partial flap and edge faults, Fine and well traveled cover, Census no. SF-12.

San Francisco, Cal., purple registry handstamp similar in style to exchange labels, on Chile 10c entire to Tientsin, China bearing Chile 1c, 2c, 3c, 1c on 20c (51, 52, 70, 58), 1¢ single and strip of three, tied by "Valdivia 28 Feb 1906" cds, Coronel and Valparaiso registry label, reverse with Coronel (3.2), Valparaiso (3.7), New York (4.8) and San Francisco (4.12) transits, Shanghai (5.11) transit and Tientsin arrival backstamps; some minor toning, still Very Fine and attractive.

The San Francisco registry exchange label style handstamp was introduced in 1906 just prior to the great earthquake that occured on April 18th 1906. This cover transitted San Francisco just six days prior to the quake.
