Hawaii, Finance Department, Collector Generals Office, fancy printed corner card on legal size 1882 cover bearing 5¢ blue (32) strip of three, tied by segmented rings cancel (M-H 117) through perfs, magenta "Honolulu Hawaii Jun 5" cds (M-H 235.12) to Elisha H. Allen, Minister Plenipotentiary at Washington D.C., forwarded to New York N.Y., reverse with multiple transits including magenta San Francisco (6.13) cds and Washington D.C. (6.20) arrival cds, forwarded with "Forwarded, Wash. D.C. Jun 21" cds and New York (6.21) arrival backstamp; left stamp small nick, a Very Fine use.

Hawaii, King Kalakaua and Queen Kapiolani, autographed King "Kalakaua" and Queen "Kapiolani" Happy New Year greetings, all in the King's hand datelined "Iolana Hale, January 1. 1883, Honolulu Oahu. Hawaiian Islands", Very Fine and scarce.

Lot 1845    

Hawaii, "Lahaina Oct 6, 1845", dateline on folded letter to Mrs. Melissa Dodge at New York City, endorsed "Per Capt Pendleton, Ship B. Morgan" at lower left, entered mails with red "New London Conn. Apr 15" cds and matching "Ship" straightline and manuscript "7" cent rating; some insect damage mostly on inner leaves, otherwise Very Fine.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The "Benjamin Morgan" was a whaling ship built in 1826 at Philadelphia. She departed New London Nov. 1843 with Chistopher Pendleton as her Master for this voyage, returning April 15th.

Hawaii, "Registered.", two bold strikes of purple straightline handstamp (MH unlisted), one cancels 10¢ yellow-green (77) pair and other adjacent at left on 1898 registered cover to Bethlehem Pa., blue "Lihue, Kauai, Aug. 20. 98" double-circle cds, red "Honolulu, Hawaii, Aug 21, 1898" cds with matching matching "R" and "A.R." handstamps, flap with blue ms. "Registered by Hong Feart, Kapaa, Kauai, H.I.", Very Fine and choice, A rare example of this "Registered." straightline from Kauai.

Gregory records this "Registered." straightline used from October 8, 1897 to March 10, 1900 on mail originating from Kauai only.
