Leavitt Machine Cancel, "Boston Mass.", type X3-2, clear impression ties 1¢ gray blue (206) on 1882 cover sent at the third class rate to Putney Vt., dial without date since third class use; file folds, Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

This rare experimental Leavitt machine cancel is known used only from September 30 to December 20, 1882.

Lot 817    

Milam & Holmes Machine Cancel, Lytle, Ga., Jun 4, 1898., Type 5 repeater marking on nice Spanish-American War Chickamauga Park patriotic cover tying 2¢ carmine; light stain, Very Fine, an unusually complete and clear strike of this rare machine cancel.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

This was used on this first day of this marking, which is recorded for only three days, June 4-6. Its rubberized cancelling die probably wore out quickly as most strikes are incomplete.

Unknown Manufacturer, Brooklyn N.Y. Jan 9 7-PM 1909, repeater machine cancel on 2¢ entire to Genesee County N.Y.; reduced slightly at right, F.-V.F., One of only four recorded examples of this machine cancel, the other three are on picture post cards.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Bob Payne owned three examples of this machine cancel on picture post cards: Jul. 29, 1908, Jul. 31, 1908 and Jan. 11, 1909.

Unknown Manufacturer, Pittsburgh, Pa., undated machine cancel with Shield fancy cancel tying 1¢ ultramarine (145) on M.M. Tilton advertising cover to Chillicothe Me., forwarded with blue "Chillicothe Me. Jul 22" cds and "Forwarded" straightline to Cullettsville N.C., unsealed flap with partial offset, opened at sides, Very Fine strike.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

This is one of only a few third class usages known with this machine cancel, each has the date slugs removed.

1879-1900s Machine Cancels, group of 28 covers and postal cards with various machine cancels including Norwalk Oh. Leavitt on UX7, Cleveland O. Nov 1 1879 Leavitt machine cancel Payne type B-CLV(C) on UX5, Boston Mass. Leavitt type A-2 with letter "C" cancel on UX5, Boston Leavitt type A-3 with letter "C" in circle killer, San Francisco Sep. 7 1900 Hampden machine postmark, some flags including involute, Kansas City Mo. Barr-Fyke (Hamner type 3), New York 1895 Constantine (Morris-Payne type 3), etc, F.-V.F (no photo).
