(Alameda) Haywood, Cal., Oct 18, manuscript postmark (ALA-2070) on yellow cover to Bucksport, Me., with blue Illustrated Four-Horse Stagecoach design and "The Star of the Union - California" imprint, franked with manuscript canceled 1857, 10¢ green, type V (corner nick); some cover edge wear, F.-V.F., a rare manuscript postmark and overland mail combination.

(Alameda) Nottingham, Cal, Jul. 21, complete sharp blue cds (ALA-3160, R5) on cover to West Wayne, Maine, with second strike and matching target handstamp tying 1869, 3¢ ultramarine, Extremely Fine.

ONE OF TWO EXAMPLES OF THE NOTTINGHAM, CAL. TOWNMARK - ONE OF THE GREAT CALIFORNIA POSTMARKS.

This is the rare key to collecting the east bay. In 2001, this cover sold in our auction of the East Bay Collection for $850 hammer. One more example is reported, however is located in family archive and never has been on the market.

(Alameda) San Leandro, Sept. 26, 1861, manuscript postmark (ALA-4500) on 1857, 1¢ blue, type V, horizontal pair and single, on lovely red and blue Flag Patriotic cover to San Francisco, with "Published at the Commercial Printing Office, 517 Clay St." (San Francisco) imprint at bottom, docketing at left, Very Fine.

(Alameda) West Berkeley, Cal., double circle postmark (Williams ALA-5130) on 1882 cover franked with two 3¢ Bank Notes, one canceled by the famous West Berkeley "Boot" fancy cancel & the other by grid, cover with small repair at top of cover, Very Fine, Post Office operated 1875-1900.

(Alpine) Silver Mountain, Cal., May 15, double circle postmark (ALP-230, R4) on 1868 cover to London, England, franked with 1861, 10¢ green + 1863, 2¢ black (s.e. at left) canceled by circle of wedges cancels & tied by red "New York Paid All" transit cds, manuscript "via Queenstown" routing endorsement and red "London" arrival postmark at left, original enclosure included which is well written & full of mining details; adhesives with small faults, otherwise Very Fine.

Two letters posted in envelope and a directive talk about the Forest ledge and tunnel, also information about the Mt Bullion mine.
