(San Bernardino) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Calico, Cal., two strikes of violet oval handstamp on 1884, 2¢ brown entire to Waterman, balck frank (WFE-060) at top; reduced at left, Very Fine.

Lot 525    

(San Bernardino) Wells, Fargo & Co's Express, Colton, Cal., sharp purple oval handstamp (type 10-33) canceling on 1870, 3¢ green entire to Waterman, Cal., black frank (WFE-030) at top; reduced at right just slightly into indicia, otherwise Very Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Colton was a small railroad station located south of the town of San Bernardino on the Union Pacific Railroad line. Two different types of hands stamps are known from this location. Both are unlisted in Leutzinger and both are considered unique.

(San Bernardino) (Wells, Fargo & Co.) Transferred at Colton, July 11, 1888 P.M., purple double straightline handstamp on 1887, 2¢ green entire to San Diego, black WFE-060 printed frank at top, Very Fine, ex-Tatham.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

Colton was a small railroad station located south of the town of San Bernardino on the east west Union Pacific Railroad line. A second railroad line ran south from this location into Riverside County and was used to move mail in San Diego County. Unlisted in Leutzinger and considered unique.
