Bureau General Post Office, Honolulu, H.I., and additional "Hawaiian Postal Service" handstamps on cover with corners punched, to Postmaster Mahukona, Hawaii, "Honolulu, H.I. May 4, 1896" origin duplex, endorsed "By special hand 5pm" at left, perfect strike of purple "Mahukona, Hawaii. May 6, 1896" arrival cds, opening tears at right, F.-V.F., a scarce use.

Bureau General Post Office, Honolulu, H.I., official Hawaiian Postal Service cover to Oakland Cal. with corners punched for fumigation, "Honolulu. H.I. Apr 26, 1900" reverse with San Francisco (5.4) transit and Oakland (5.4) arrival machine; some soiling, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

Bubonic plague swept through Honolulu and other parts of the Islands for several months and Honolulu was quarantined starting December 12, 1899 and finally ending April 30, 1900.

General Post Office., red straightline corner card handstamp on cover to Austria bearing 2¢ rose (81) and 25¢ deep blue (79) tied by two strikes of matching red "Honolulu, Hawaii, Oct 30 1899" cds and "R / 9287" registry handstamp, reverse with San Francisco (11.6), New York (11.12, 11.13) transits and Dubrovnik (11.27) arrival cds; reduced slightly at left, Very Fine.

Department of Taxation, black mourning wax seal on reverse of On His Majesty's Service imprint cover with printed "Free." at top left addressed to W. Goodale, Collector Gen. of Customs, Custom House; light aging, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The black mourning Department of Taxation wax seal was because Kamehameha IV had just died. Goodale returned just after this mailing to the mainland. His son, a Plantation owner, came back in 1870s and married Emma Whitney, daughter of Henry Whitney.
