(Hawaii) Kohala P.O., manuscript town postmark (802, 1RR) on 1864, 2¢ rose vermilion on cover to Carrie Bond in Hilo (daughter of Kohala postmaster Rev. Elias Bond), reverse with "Nov 26 or 17 1869" receiving docketing; light cover toning and opening at left, otherwise Very Fine, a rare manuscript postmark on cover.

(Hawaii) Kohala, H.I., Post Office, May 19, 1880, full strike of cds (238.02, scarcity 2) tying 1875, 2¢ brown on fresh cover to Hilo, "Kawaihae, H.I., Post Office, May 19, 1880" transit cds (238.02, scarcity 2) at center; stamp with a few perf flaws, otherwise Extremely Fine.

(Hawaii) Kohala, Hawaii, Jun 1, 1883, clear strike of double-circle datestamp (282.013 (I), scarcity 3) on yellow cover bearing 1¢ green + 2¢ brown pair + 5¢ ultramarine tied by segmented rings cancels (Gregory ring3-23) to New York N.Y., bold red "Honolulu, Hawaii Jun 3" (MH 235.12) cds, red San Francisco Paid All (6.11) cds and New York (6.19) arrival cds, Very Fine and attractive use with a three-color franking.
Scott No. 35+39+42    Estimate $300 - 400.

This Kohala 33mm double-lined outer circle and single lined inner circle datestamp is known in purple from June 1, 1883 to June 1888. The cover here is the Earliest Known Use.

(Hawaii) Laupahoehoe, April 25th, 1864, manuscript cancel (803, 1RRRR) on 1861, 2¢ pale rose, horizontally laid paper, with additional blue "Paid" in oval handstamp (760), small thins, otherwise Very Fine; with 1977 P.F. certificate.

(Hawaii) Laupahoehoe, Hawaii, Jul 21, 1899, full strike of serrated balloon cds (291.01, scarcity 3) tying 1899, 2¢ rose on cover to Honolulu, receiving backstamp, Very Fine, the earliest example of this Laupahoehoe postmark, a rare full strike postmark on cover.

(Hawaii) Mt. View, Jun 28, manuscript town and date cancel (803, 1RRRR) on 1894, 2¢ brown, with additional light purple town cancel (appears to be Hilo), rich color, thins, otherwise Very Fine.

THE ONLY RECORDED POSTAL MARKING FROM MOUNTAIN VIEW, HAWAII.

Little is known regarding this office. Official records, including records of stamp distribution to country offices, make no mention of this office. Half-way houses on the road from Hilo to Volcano House were located here. In 1899-1900, an unofficial postal agency was operated here by J. W. Mason, the Olaa postmaster.
