Postal History Collection, 1793-1900s, small box of over 230 covers including 1795 "Salem, Sept. 22" two-line postmark on folded letter to Hanover N.H., 1850 pointing hand "Paid" handstamp with manuscript. "24 paid" rating to Marblehead, 1810 pointing hand "Paid" handstamp with manuscript. "16" cent rating to Boston, 1842 printed circular with some political content, 1846 Salem letter "per Express" to New York with pencil "Col 1.25" rating, #1 pen cancelled on Salem Mass. cover to New Bedford Mass., #9 on 1857 circular with "Salem Ms. 1 Paid" cds to South Berwick Me., few transatlantics, some re-ratings, incoming ship letters including. 1799 and 1816 from Martinique, 1835 from Bombay, #65 with fancy Salem witch cancel, couple "Advertised" straightlines in black and red, 1825 manuscript. "Salem Ms., May 29" forwarding postmark use, two #25 usages including one with "Missent" handstamp, #9 single and pair on cover to Conway N.H. endorsed "1 Circular"; some mixed condition, F.-V.F., A wonderful basis for further study of this important Colonial New England seaport town.
