(Polk) Eola, O.T., May 5, manuscript postmark (Whittlesey unlisted) on stampless cover to Kentucky, handstamped "Paid" and manuscript "10" rate marking, "1858" pencil notation on the back, minor corner and edge wear, top backflap missing, Very Fine, a heretofore unrecorded Oregon territorial town.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

The Eola Post Office was established in 1856.

(Polk) Etna, Ogn., July 8th, manuscript postmark (Whittlesey 1, R 7) with manuscript "3 cts Paid" rate marking all at upper right on stampless cover, Cummins correspondence to Eugene City, hand-drawn Civil War patriotic flag design at left with text written in phonography, accompanied by original 1861 letter also written in phonography, cover slightly reduced at right with repaired corner at lower right and minor corner wear at upper right, Fine and very unusual.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The Etna Post Office operated 1856-1868. Scarcity Index 8 in Helbock's books.

(Polk) Independence (Oregon), March 1/ 54, manuscript postmark (Whittlesey 1, R B) on stampless folded letter (outer sheet only with no contents) with manuscript "5" changed to "Paid 6" rate marking, to Joseph Lane, Oregon Territory's Delegate to Congress in Washington D.C., Very Fine.

(Umatilla) Umatilla, Oregon, two covers, first with Umatilla, Ogn., Dec 3d/ 64 manuscript postmark (Whittlesey 2, R 6) and 1861 3¢ rose cancelled by pen strokes, to Vermont, slightly reduced at left, second with Umatilla, Or'n., Apr 26 cds (Whittlesey 3, R 5) and 1861 3¢ rose tied by target cancel, to Seattle Wash. Terry., "1867" docket on the back, reduced at left, F.-V.F. Pair.

Pair.

(Wasco) Dalles, O.T., June 20/ 53, manuscript postmark (Whittlesey 1, R C) on cover to Michigan, 1851 3¢ dull red type II pair cancelled by pen strokes and just tied, "1853" pencil docket at left, closed tear through the postmark, edge wear and top backflap partially missing, Fine.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The Dalles Post Office (without "The" in the name), which was the forerunner of the Wascopum and The Dalles Post Offices, operated for two years only 1851-1853. Scarcity Index 9 in Helbock's books.

(Wasco) Wascopum, O.T., 27 Feb, manuscript postmark (Whittlesey 1, R B) and manuscript "5" rate marking on 1855 stampless business letter, Foster correspondence to Oregon City, minor edge wear, Very Fine.

The Wascopum Post Office, which was the forerunner of The Dalles Post Office, operated for seven years only 1853-1860. Scarcity Index 8 in Helbock's books.

(Wasco) Wascopum, Or., Dec 30, cds (Whittlesey 2, R 8) as transit postmark on incoming cover, 1857 10¢ green type V tied by "Waupum, Wis., Sep 27" origin postmark, to Portland where forwarded to Walla Walla W.T. with Portland transit postmark and manuscript "Forwarded 3" due, forwarded again from Wascopum with manuscript "missent + ford," "1859" pencil notation on the back, slightly reduced at left, F.-V.F., nice combination of forwarding with postage due because redirected and then free because missent.
Estimate    $200 - 300.
