Devil with Pitchfork, clear strike duplexed with "West Meriden Conn., Jun 7" cds on 3¢ pink (U58) entire to Providence, R.I., blue "N.C. Stiles & Co., West Meriden, Conn. Presses and Dies." corner card handstamp, a Very Fine strike of this desirable fancy cancel.
Skinner-Eno No. PH-F 40    Estimate $1,000 - 1,500.

It is quite possible that Stiles & Co. was the company that created the fancy Devil & Pitchfork postmark device for the postmaster of West Meriden.

Open Circled Star, four bold strikes tie 1¢ ultramarine (156) and 3¢ green (158) strip of three, on 1876 cover to Burma, matching sharp strike of "Durham Me Oct 23" cds, red "New York Oct 24" exchange cds, reverse with Calcutta (12.3), Sea Post Office (11.7), and Moulmein (12.8) arrival cds; top edge tears, still Very Fine and scarce usage.
