Hawaii, MacFarlane & Co., Honolulu, H.I., Jun 1, 1881, blue oval company handstamp as flap seal on cover to Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis Mo. bearing 5¢ ultramarine (39) tied by target cancel, matching "Honolulu H.I. Jun 1" cds, endorsed "per S.S. Alameda" at top left, reverse with red San Francisco Paid All (6.8) transit and St. Louis (6.13) arrival cds; cover tear, F.-V.F.

Hawaii, Samuel M. Damon, Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands, imprint on flap of cover to Boston Mass. bearing 5¢ ultramarine (39) tied by four-rings, matching "Honolulu H.I. Dec 15, 1888" cds, red San Francisco Paid All (12.23) and New York (12.29) arrival cds, Very Fine and fresh use.

Samuel Mills Damon (1845-1924) was a banker and government official. In 1871 he entered the firm of Bishop & Co., 1889-90 he was Minister of Finance, 1893 he became Vice President of the Provisional Government of Hawaii, and became President of Bishop & Co., 1893-1887 Minister of Finance again, 1897 Minister of Foreign Affairs, 1898-1900 Minister of Finance yet again, and 1899-1900 Minister of the Interior.
