Hawaii, Oahu Town Postmark Collection, hundreds of used arranged in two binders and four stockbooks; good showing of townmarks including Aiea, Ewa with 281.013 strike (1RR), Heeia, Honouliuli, Kahuku, Kaneohe, Laie 282.011 strikes with and without date (1R), Peninsula 255.9a1 (1RR), several Punaluu 255.01 strikes (1R), Waialua, Waianae, Waipahu, some Honolulu and includes backstock of towns with some heavy duplication, a nice reference collection.

Hawaii, Oahu Town Postmark Cover Collection, approximately 25 covers and cards arranged in binder; includes well struck Aiea duplex x2 (255.9a1, scarcity 2), bold Ewa (282.011) postmark, Heeia with 281.01 postmark showing with and without date (when date marking became useless), couple Honouliuli 281.02 usages, Kahuku 253.02 marks including postal card usages to Germany, early and late Waialua 282.013 marks including postal card to England, Waianae with 282.016 & 282.011.9a1 marks and a selection of Waipahu duplexes (255.9a1); condition varies with some duplication in marks to be expected.

Hawaii, Honolulu Domestic Postmark Cover Collection, of 28 covers and cards with a few additional reference covers, showing the various townmarks used on domestic mail from the mid-1860's to 1900; mostly general usages with a few combination townmarks and a later registered used; condition varies, inspect (no photo).

Hawaii, Honolulu Foreign Postmark Cover Collection, approximately 60 covers and cards arranged in two binders, virtually all usages to the U.S.; starting with a couple late 1850's usages with MH# 243.03 cds's, one with part uncanceled 5¢ Kamehameha issue (defects), nice showing of Honolulu postmarks from the 1870's on including the "G.P.O." cds's, one with backstamp from Kawaihae, the rimless "Paid All" cds followed by rim version in colors, a section MH# 235.12 postmarks with many #39 frankings as well as other 5¢ usages, color of postmarks during periods, origin postmarks including Hilo, Wailuku and one with possible latest use of a Makawao townmark (238.02, 8/25/83), postal card use, etc., later usages with ship endorsement, uprated stationary, 2¢ soldiers fee, etc.; condition varies with duplication in postmarks to expected throughout.

Hawaii, Auxiliary Markings Balance Collection, of over 40 covers and card and one on piece; includes the two different Late Letter Mail circular marking (both 1RRR, one with franking missing), Too Late on piece with 2¢ (MH unrecorded, 1RRRR), unrecorded Missent marking on 1885 cover from Paia to Punaluu, Oahu with Wailuku forwarding postmark (stamps removed), section of "T" due & Collect markings on incoming and outgoing mails, nice sections of Dead Letter Office Marks and Collection Marks, also a few other auxiliary marks on foreign mails; condition varies with many scarce items.

Hawaii, Fancy Cancel Cover Collection, of over 50 covers and a few fronts, 1860-80's; starting with letters including serif "H" of Honolulu (lettH-14, 1R) and "H" in circle of Hilo (both lettH-20(circled H), scarcity 3 & lettH-24(circled H, serif), 1R), the small negative "HI" in circle with some triple rate usages (one on front) and early and later strikes showing progressive breakdown of device, the blue "Paid" in oval handstamp in combination with other handstamps, section of target handstamp with study of the 1869 target two ring center pin of Honolulu (ring2-19(center dot), scarcity 2) and the later segmented three ring including foreign usage, other targets noting the scarce Wailuku four-ring target with center pin, selection of grids & bars including the scarce dashed grid (cirgrid25-7(dashes), 1R), small section of pen cancel items from the 1860's; condition varies with some duplication to be expected, with many nice items throughout.

Hawaii, Fancy Cancels Balance, approximately 170 stamp arranged on stockpages; starting with letters including nine "H" cancels (most rating 1R), negative "HI" cancels showing erosion to device, the large "HP" cancel (lettHP, 1RRRR, stamp flaws), two examples of the large K (lettK-18, 1R) and "W" in circle (lettW-20(circled), 1RRRR), also a section of FD in circle cancels, geometric including a nice section of target with many scarcer handstamps with a nice range of issues, similar grids including a section of S.F. foreign mail cancels, interesting group of pen cancels, plantation marks with 18 stamps with marks including Hoaeae, Kukaiau Mill Co., "Paauilo, Hawaii" and Hamakua Mill Co., some other miscellaneous cancels, etc.; some duplication in strikes to be expected, a nice foundation for further expansion.

Lot 3207    

Hawaii, Bubonic Plague Fumigation, 1899-1900, group of 10 covers showing fumigation with clipped corners or punch holes, and last day April 30th cover showing no signs of fumigation, three advertising covers of E.O. Hall & Son, Wall Nichols Co. and Hawaiian Gazette Co.; some mixed condition, F.-V.F. and scarce group.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

Bubonic plague swept through Honolulu and other parts of the Islands for several months and Honolulu was quarantined starting December 12, 1899 and finally ending April 30, 1900.
