New Zealand, 1856, Queen Victoria "Chalon Head", 2d blue on blue paper, Auckland printing, unwatermarked, margins mostly large to just touching at top right, rich color, tied by bold "1" barred oval handstamp on cover to Newcastle upon Tyne, England, matching Auckland, New Zealand, Ju 23, 1856 cds alongside, large "8d" rate handstamp and reverse with "Plymouth, Ship Letter" entry, Prudoe Station transit and receiving cds's; some light cover wrinkling, Very Fine, considered to be the earliest usage of the 2d Richardson print to England, ex-Odenweller and Yeroc. Scott No. 5.
