(Perf Varieties) 1857, 3¢ dull red, type III, double perforations, unused bottom margin strip of four with double vertical perfs, positions 93-96R24, some hinge reinforcement and small flaws, striking and Very Fine appearance, Pictured in the "U.S. Perforation Centennial 1857-1957" book on page 21.

(Perf Varieties) 1857, 3¢ dull red, type III, Double and Triple Perfs, used examples of these two perforation varieties, the triple being exceptionally rare, F.-V.F.
Scott No. 26 var.    Estimate $150 - 200.

The triple perforation variety with perforations on both sides, is the finest surviving example and was written up in Linns several years ago. A copy of the article accompanies the lot.

(Perf Varieties) 1857, 3¢ dull red, type III, Perforation Varieties, group comprising mint #26 top margin strip of three with double perfs (pos. 6-8R27), mint #26 vertical pair with double perfs at right only, 7 used singles with double perfs incl. bottom row single, and huge wide #26 with perfs including ¼ of stamp at right used on cover tied by "Ashford Conn. Aug 12" cds; some faults, F.-V.F., an interesting group.
