(Usages) 1851, 3¢ orange brown, type I, clear to large margins, tied by straight line St. Louis, Mo. "Steam 5" handstamp on 1851 folded letter with printed prices current from New Orleans, La. to St. Louis, Mo., letter mentions the Lopez expedition to Cuba…Another expedition is now ready for Cuba and we hear will be off tomorrow, Very Fine and choice.

(Usages) 1852, 3¢ dull red, type II, top sheet margin single, hige margins to slightly in at bottom, tied by "New-York Oct 22" cds on fresh cover with embossed "Edwards, Sanford & Co's Foreign Express, New York" illustrated blue cameo corner card showing steamship to Philadelphia Pa., minor stain spot, Very Fine and scarce cameo.

(Usages) 3¢ dull red, type III (Old Stamps Not Recognized), tied by two strikes of Cogwheel fancy cancel on yellow cover to Albion Mich., stamp not accepted and "San Francisco Cal, Nov 23 1863" cds with matching "6" cent due rating handstamp adjacent, Jan. 25th 1864 docketing at left; small edge tear and soiling, F.-V.F., A rare late use of the 3¢ 1857 Issue after demonetization, the only on cover example of the San Francisco cogwheel fancy cancel we have seen on this issue.

(Usages) 1855 (Feb. 26) Browns Corner Me. to Cadiz, Spain, orange cover with manuscript "Browns Corner, Feb. 26" postmark and matching cancel on 3¢ dull red (11A), to Capt. J.S. Arey, care of the American Consul, Cadiz, Spain, red "New-York Br. Pkt. Mar 13" exchange cds, carried by Cunard Line Canada from Boston Mar. 17th to Liverpool arriving Mar. 29th, London (3.29) transit backstamp but London did not allow unpaid letters to France at this time and returned to New York by Cunard Line America departing Mar. 31st arriving at Boston Apr. 14th, placed on sailing ship St. Louis departing New York Apr. 27th to Le Havre arriving May 20th, red Le Havre (5.20) arrival cds, blue Spanish entry backstamp and matching "4R." reales due handstamp, redirected back to Boston probably because Capt. Arey had sailed, red Havre "Espagne" (6.10) transit cds, carried by Union Line Zurich" from Havre Jun. 13th to New York arriving Jul. 23rd, bold "New-York 'Ship 5 cts' Jul 25" arrival due cds; most of two flaps missing, 3¢ creased, F.-V.F., A most unusual and well traveled cover.

(Usages) Remember Ellsworth, two Ellsworth patriotic designs comprising "Remember Ellsworth" showing him with a sword standing on the C.S.A. flag, and other with Ellsworth portrait with draped U.S. flags, each bearing 3¢ dull red (26), one tied by "Albany N.Y. Jun 21" duplex to Gouverneur N.Y., and other "Washington City D.C. 'Free' Jun 26 1861" to Keene N.H.; couple small flaws, F.-V.F. pair.

Aug 9" cds ties two 3¢ dull red (11A) singles, pos. 71R5L, 83R5L, large to slightly irregular margins, on orange cover with "Marquette House, W.S. Barker & Co., Marquette, Lake Superior" fancy corner to Elyria Oh., matching 1856 datelined Marquette House letterhead enclosure; small cover faults, Very Fine and scarce Cleveland Oh. steamboat use.
