Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ blue, Archer & Daly printing, horizontal pair, canceled by manuscript "Come Peace, Welcome Peace, Sweet Peace", apparently hand carried to Mr. Edwin Rieger, Goldsboro SC Troops, Comp D 53 Reg, in care of Capt Scott, includes small gold gilt embossed Valentine with handwritten verse inside signed "Charlie Valentine", F.-V.F., (See website for photo of Valentine enclosure).

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ blue, Archer & Daly printing, horizontal pair, tied by partial "Richmond Va., Feb 25, 1863" cds (left stamp tied by black pen stroke) on embossed ladies envelope to Centre, Ala., F.-V.F.
Scott No. 7    Estimate $150 - 200.

Includes an Ashbrook typed note speculating that this envelope contained a Valentine from a soldier in "the Lines" around Richmond, who got the envelope from a local sutler, then had to delay before getting into Richmond to mail it.

Confederacy, 1862, 5¢ blue, Archer & Daly printing, horizontal pair, tied by "Charleston S.C., Feb 19" cds on small cover to Augusta Ga.; includes large (10 x 14") hand colored penny dreadful comic Valentine "Dry Good Dummy" by artist C.J. Howard with quite an unflattering verse; cover with small stain at lower right, Valentine had to be folded many times to fit into the small envelope and has multiple repaired splits, Fine, (See website for photo of Valentine enclosure), ex-Haas.
