Durfee's Express (Forwarded By), black on green label (Mosher DRFX-L1) on cover to Chicago, Ill., franked with 1851, 3¢ dull red (11) tied by "Great Falls, N.H., Jul 7" cds, reverse with paste-up remnants and squared portion of back cut-out (probably another label), Very Fine, extremely rare, the only recorded example of this express label; with 2009 P.F. certificate declining opinion on label originating.

(On Hand) Cashier's Office, Received from Memphis Office June 10, 1869, black on orange label (Mosher SOX-L131) on reverse of 1864 3¢ entire to Memphis, Tenn., with manuscript "Paid 2/-" express fee notation, with original 1867 enclosure; opened at sides for display, Very Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

These Post Civil War Distribution labels were used after the Civil War to forward undelivered cover and valuables to the addressed parties. These covers had been held in the Southern Express On Hand (O.H.) department because they could not be delivered.
