Lots 32-41 Lots 42-51

Lot 42 o

1856, 5¢ Red Brown, light "New Orleans" cds postmark, four enormous even margins with deep, rich color and sharp early impression, an Extremely Fine gem; with 1963 and 1998 P.F. certificates.
Scott No. 12    $700.

ONE OF THE FINEST USED EXAMPLES WE HAVE EVER OFFERED OF THE 1856 5¢ RED BROWN.

This is a notoriously difficult stamp to find in this choice condition as most examples are cut in or touched. When a four margin example is found, more often than not, the margins have been cut at an angle and do not have this wonderful "boxed" appearance.
