THE ONLY RECORDED ESSAY FOR THE 1885 10¢ SPECIAL DELIVERY STAMP.

This die state omitted ornaments on either side of the word "Special". It has a line in pencil added by hand under the Messenger tablet and is lacking shading in various areas.

THE ONLY RECORDED SMALL DIE TRIAL COLOR PROOF OF THE 1885 10¢ SPECIAL DELIVERY ISSUE.

This trial color small die proof was probably pulled at the time of the Panama-Pacific Exposition small die proof special printing since it is on similar soft yellowish wove paper and with the typical 2.5mm-3mm margins.

B.B. Odell Jr. for the proof book from which this page was taken; light vertical crease at left, the proofs are fresh and Very Fine, only 85 sets prepared and few remain on their original pages.
