Special Delivery, 1894, 10¢ Blue, Unwatermarked, Hybrid Large Die Proof, India paper pressed on 196x146mm card, manuscript "Approved P.O.D. Sept 13/94, Wesley R. Davis, U.S.P.S.A."; mounting hinge at top, Very Fine.

THE ONLY RECORDED DESIGN APPROVAL PROOF FOR THE 1894 10¢ SPECIAL DELIVERY ISSUE.

The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), modified the existing American Bank Note Company (ABNC) die and in October of 1894, printed the fourth Special Delivery stamp issue using unwatermarked paper, perforated 12. Wesley R. Davis was the U.S. Postage Stamp Agent under the Office of the Third Assistant Postmaster General.

Special Delivery, 1894, 10¢ Blue, Unwatermarked, Large Die Proof, India paper die sunk on 114x151mm card, signed in pencil "James Kennedy" at bottom left; some tone spotting, F.-V.F., The only recorded signed example.

James Kennedy was a Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) engraver who was involved with the 1894 Bureau stamp issue.

ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED 1894 10¢ SPECIAL DELIVERY ISSUE IMPERFORATE BLOCKS, THIS BEING THE ONLY ONE WITH ORIGINAL GUM.

The two recorded recorded blocks of the 10¢ 1894 Special Delivery imperforate on stamp paper are:
1. Block of Four, original gum, the block offered here.
2. Block of Six, without gum, some creases and bends, ex-Whitpain, realized $13,800.

Special Delivery, 1894, 10¢ Blue, Unwatermarked, Imperf Proof on Stamp Paper, horizontal pair with significant portions of six adjoining stamps, unusual albino impression showing lack of ink on much of the piece outside of the bottom two stamps in the pair, back of piece with ms. color mixture notes in pencil, without gum, Very Fine and striking, ex-Whitpain.
