1789 (Jan. 5) Halifax N.S. to London, England, folded cover with framed "HALIFAX N.S." postmark and "JA. 5" date on flap and manuscript "1/" rating, carried by Falmouth Packet Speedy to Great Britain, London (2.12) arrival backstamp; some wear and slight overall toning, Fine, ex-Halifax, Steinhart.

1789 (Jul. 7) Fredericton N.B. to London, England, folded letter with faded red manuscript "Postage Paid to Halifax N9" at top, "Halifax, N: Scotia, Aug 5 '89" split double-ring cds and manuscript "1/-" packet rating, carried by Falmouth Packet Cumberland to Falmouth, London (10.2) arrival cds; fold soiling and slight overall toning, Fine.

1791 (Aug. 23) Halifax N.S. to London, England, folded cover bearing "Halifax, N: Scotia, Aug 23 '91" split double-ring cds on flap and manuscript "1/" packet rating, carried by Falmouth Packet Dashwood to Falmouth, London (10.7) backstamp, rating cross out and red "Free, OC 7 91" cds struck, fresh and Extremely Fine.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

The addressee, Henry Dundas was a Member of Parliament and was exempt from postage. The privilege to send and receive mail free was introduced in 1652.

1801 (Feb. 25) Halifax N.S. to Rothsay, Island of Bute, Scotland, datelined folded letter bearing "Halifax / Feb 25 1801" two-line postmark on flap, red London (4.28) backstamp and manuscript "2/7" rating for 1s packet rate plus 1s7d inland postage, endorsed to be sent as a ship letter by "p. Prudence via Liverpool" but then sent by H.M.S. Larcom to London, F.-V.F., ex-Maritimus.

1802 (Apr. 24) Halifax, N.S. to London, England, datelined folded letter with "Halifax / Apr" two-line handstamp, carried by Lady Arabelle to Falmouth, red London (5.31) backstamp and manuscript "1/10" packet rating, clean and Very Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

From January 5th 1797, the rate to Falmouth became 1s and 1s8d to London, then from April 5th 1801 the rate to London increased to 1s10d.

1806 (Jun. 18) Guernsey, Channel Islands to Annapolis Royal, N.S., datelined folded letter with curved "Guernsey" dispatch handstamp and red manuscript "P 1/-" shilling packet rating, rerated "1/1" for 1s1d packet rate from London, carried by Prince Adolphus from Falmouth via Halifax, reverse with "Halifax / 25 Aug" two-line postmark and manuscript "Packet 1N2½" cy. rating (1s1d equiv.) plus "9" d.cy. inland totalled to "1N11½" due rating; small edge tears and toning, Fine, ex-De Volpi, Steinhart.

1810, Algiers to Halifax N.S., folded letter (not complete) from the British Consul H.S. Blankley to his son, carried privately to Lisboa, then by Packet to Falmouth with green "Lisbon, F, Aug 20 1810" rimless cds and manuscript "3/11" rating, rerated "5/-", then carried transatlantic by Lady Hobart from Falmouth Sep. 19th to Halifax arriving Oct. 29th; some faults and aging, Fine, ex-Steinhart.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

A RARE USE FROM ALGIERS VIA PORTUGAL AND FALMOUTH TO HALIFAX.

H.S. Blankley Jr. was reported to be a spy for Wellington, receiving the Waterloo medal. This letter was rated 3s11d from Portugal to Falmouth, then 1s1d added for the packet rate to Halifax.
