1823 (Feb. 4) Dublin, Ireland to Prince Edward Island, folded letter carried as endorsed by John Wells to New York, entered the mails with red "New-York Jun 10" date stamp and matching "Ship" handstamp with red manuscript "20¾" rating for 18¾¢ for 151-400 miles plus 2¢ ship fee, "Halifax, JU 16 1823" fleuron and matching "Forward" with red manuscript "1-1" cy. equivalent (18¾¢) rating plus "3-2" totalled to "4/3" to Halifax plus "8" d.cy. to P.E.I. totalled to "4N11" due, two strikes of "Prince Edward Island Jul: 18 1823" rimless cds; some wear, F.-V.F., ex-De Volpi.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

A most unusual, delayed and expensive routing. The letter content mentions "Mr Labertouche has promised to take charge of this epistle, as one of his vessels will sail from this directly to PEI".
