Hawaii, People's Ice and Rfg. Co., Ltd., Honolulu, H.I., three covers comprising type 1 printed corner card on blue cover bearing 2¢ rose (81) tied by "Honolulu H.I. Jul 29 1899" duplex to Lihue Kauai, type 1 printed corner card on faulty blue cover with additional purple "W.O. Atwater / Honolulu, H.I." two-line handstamp (WOA-HS-1) bearing 1¢ yellow (74) tied by bold "Honolulu. H.I. Mar 27, 1899" duplex locally addressed, and type 3B printed corner card on cover bearing 1¢ dark green (80) tied by "Honolulu, H.I. Mar 31, 1900" duplex to local address, F.-V.F. group.

Hawaii, Spear & Pfeiffer, Watchmakers and Jewelers, Honolulu, H.I., purple fancy framed handstamp on 5¢ blue (U4) cancelled by target cancel to San Francisco Cal., reverse with matching "Honolulu H.I. Jun 1" (MH 234.62) cds, light strike of red San Francisco Paid All arrival cds; top edge opening flaws, Fine, The only recorded example of this corner card handstamp.

Spear & Pfeiffer of Honolulu were watchmakers and jewelers established in 1885, successors to Broglie & Speak (named for John A. Spear and C.H. Pfeiffer). The firm was succeeded by John A. Spear in 1887.

Dec 6" cds, "Honolulu H.I. Dec 15 1886" (MH 234.62) arrival backstamp; light card creasing, a Very Fine and rare company cachet.

The message was the report card from St. Matthews Hall of student D.F. Notley. Charles Notley was an assistant Surgeon General.

Hawaii, Department of Taxation, black mourning wax seal on reverse of On His Majesty's Service imprint cover with printed "Free." at top left addressed to W. Goodale, Collector Gen. of Customs, Custom House; light aging, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

The black mourning Department of Taxation wax seal was because Kamehameha IV had just died. Goodale returned just after this mailing to the mainland. His son, a Plantation owner, came back in 1870s and married Emma Whitney, daughter of Henry Whitney.
