Great Britain, 1884 Hand Illustrated Cover, featuring Two Gentlemen Offering a Humorous Explanation of a Statue of Hercules with a Discus, franked with a 1d lilac tied by a Clifton duplex, includes a three-page letter mentioning the drawing as well as local goings-on including "Oscar Wildisms", Very Fine and attractive.

Great Britain, 1884 Hand Illustrated Covers, group of ten covers by the same artist featuring a number of subjects portrayed in skillfully rendered pen & ink drawings, all addressed in a humorous fashion to one Jack Archbold of Fratton, Portsmouth; all but one (a 1d stamped envelope) are franked with a 1d lilac tied by various London S.W. duplexes between March and November of 1884, some minor toning or edge wear, a F.-V.F. and very attractive group.
Estimate    $750 - 1,000.

Lot 2361 ()   

Great Britain, 1891-92 The Sargent Correspondence, group of 23 illustrated cover fronts, all about 4½" x 3½", addressed to a Miss Sargent in Bristol; nine are pen & ink, the rest watercolor including some quite elaborate and primarily quite skillfully done. Most are franked with a 1d lilac and all are postmarked Cardiff; a few are trimmed into the stamp and there is a bit of toning and such, accompanied by a 9x11½" photograph of a young girl purportedly the same Miss A.W. Sargent, but generally a F.-V.F. and attractive group.
Estimate    $500 - 750.
