(Polk) Luckimute, Ogn., Apl 9, manuscript postmark showing spelling variant of "Lackemute" official Post Office name (Whittlesey 2, R 7) on cover with 1861 3¢ rose cancelled by pen strokes, to Lafayette, "1866" pencil docket at lower left, a trifle reduced at right, Very Fine.
Estimate    $150 - 200.

The Lackemute Post Office operated 1851-1874. Scarcity Index 7 in Helbock's books.

(Wasco) The Dalles, Or, Sep 30, cds (Whittlesey 3, R 4) on phonography text advertising cover, 1861 3¢ rose with grid cancel and just tied, Cummins correspondence to Washington D.C., "1864" docket at left over part of the text, slightly reduced at right, F.-V.F.

(Washington) Hillsboro, Oregon, two covers, first an 1861 folded letter to Maine with Hillsboro, Or., Sep 4 cds (Whittlesey 4, R 5) and 1857 10¢ green type V with target cancel, "1861" docket at left, stain at bottom, accompanied by a handwritten transcription of the letter from a man to his family back home, "second" with Hillsboro, Orn., May 20/ 63 manuscript postmark (Whittlesey 3, R 5) and 1861 3¢ rose cancelled by pen strokes, to "Oak Point, Columbia C. Oregon" (no such Post Office but presumably sent to Rainier), discoloration from moisture, edge wear, Fine Pair.

Oregon, December the 8th 1867" from a woman to her brother and sister that may be original to this cover, Very Fine.

Pair.

(Virginia) Virginia Central R.R. May 13, clear strike of route agent cds on 3¢ red (U2) entire to San Francisco Cal., manuscript "Due 15" rating; some edge wear, Very Fine and rare railroad post office use.

This double-eight cover was credited with half of the first ½ oz. prepaid 3¢, plus half of first ½ oz. unpaid 5¢ plus the second ½ oz. unpaid 10¢ for a total due of 15¢. This is a very usual treatment of the short payment.
