Segmented Grid, bold strike ties 6¢ carmine (148) wide margins, on blue 1872 folded cover to London, England, blue Savannah Ga. merchant oval, hand carried to New York where it entered the mails, red "New York Jul 27" exchange cds, carried as endorsed by Inman Line City of Brussels that arrived at Queenstown on Aug. 5th, red London (8.6) arrival cds, Very Fine, Illustrated in Weiss NYFM on page 350. One of only 7 recorded TR-G31 covers. ex-Weiss, Ainsworth, Kirke.

Grid, two strikes tie 10¢ brown (150), horizontal pair, on 1871 folded cover to Neuchatel, Switzerland, red "New York Paid All Dec 12" exchange cds also ties pair, blue crayon "2" for double weight, Basel (12.25.71) and indistinct Neuchatel backstamps; minor edgewear, Very Fine, This is the earliest of only five recorded TR-G32 covers.; with 2009 Weiss certificate.

Propeller, fine strike ties 6¢ carmine (148) on cover to London, England, originally cancelled by mistake with "New York Sep 27" domestic duplex, red "New York Sep 27" exchange cds struck after error (and NYFM applied), carried on the Guion Line Nevada arrived at Queenstown on Oct. 9th, red London (10.10.71) arrival cds; 6¢ with flaws from edge placement, Fine and unusual, A fantastic NYFM cover with cancel applied over domestic, This being one of only three recorded RE-M2 covers.

Crude Negative "H", perfect strike ties 6¢ carmine (148), intense color and impression, on 1872 orange buff cover to Bremen, Germany, indistinct "New York Paid All Direct Dec 14" exchange cds, carried on the NGL Line America, red framed Bremen "Franco" (12.28) framed transit postmark, Aichim (12.28) arrival backstamp; opened at right, a Very Fine and choice use, ex-Kaplan, Albert, Weiss, Ainsworth, Kirke, Richards.

THE FINEST STRIKE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED EXAMPLES OF THIS CANCEL, WHICH SPAN ONLY THREE DAYS OF USE.

Experts are trying to solve the "what is it" question of this unusual cancel. We feel it is a crude negative "H", but others have suggested a mug. The recorded covers are from December 12 to December 14, 1872. Illustrated in Weiss NYFM on page 459.

Radial Geometric, bold strike ties 6¢ dull rose (159) on 1874 folded cover to London, England at the 6¢ treaty rate, endorsed "pr. Str. Donau", red "New York Mar 21" exchange cds, red London (4.1.74) arrival cds; fresh and Very Fine., fresh and Very Fine example of this unlisted NYFM geometric, ex-Landau, Richards.

Carried on NGL Line "Donau" that arrived at Southampton on April 1, 1874. Illustrated in CC NEWS, August 2011, p. 115, fig 1.

Lot 1327    

Radial, two strikes tie 10¢ brown (161), deep rich color, on blue 1874 folded cover to France, red "New-York Mar 21" exchange cds, this cover was carried on the French Line Pereire that arrived at Brest on Mar. 30th as indicated by the entry backstamp, black "5" decimes due handstamp, Brest (3.30) entry and Douarnenez (3.31) arrival backstamps, Very Fine, One of only two recorded examples of this unlisted NYFM killer.
Weiss No. TR-M10    Estimate $200 - 300.

This newly discovered NYFM was documented by Dan Richards in his article "NYFM Update, Part 2" (CC News, August 2011, p. 115). The two recorded covers were used on the same day, March 21, 1874. This cancel was unlisted by Weiss, but we have designated a Weiss number that corresponds to the design style.
