Liberty With Flag and Shield, Magnus design on cover to Farmer, N.Y., franked with manuscript canceled 1861, 3¢ rose (flaws) and manuscript "GBD Sept 12" General Banks Division postmark at top; light cover tone spots and backflap tears, Fine, ex-Bischel.

General Banks Division (GBD) was applied to covers at Division Headquarters of Major General Nathaniel Banks in Virginia and Maryland, Sep. 1861 - Nov. 1862.

Lincoln, beardless portrait design with legend and McNally & Co. imprint, on cover to Constantine, Mich., franked with 1861, 3¢ rose pink tied by "Brooklyn, Pa., Apr 3" cds; light cover stain and small cover opening nick at top above stamp, F.-V.F. Milgram No. AL-51.

Nurse and Fallen Soldier, red white and blue battle scene patriotic design on cover bearing 3¢ rose (65) tied by two sharp strikes of "Jackson Mich, Sep 12 1862" cds to North Greece N.Y.; original multicolor Eagle patriotic letterhead enclosure datelined "South Jackson, Mich Sept 11/62" mentioning "…Crops are pretty good about here this yea. It is pretty hard times here for help on the account of the war, all of the young folks around here have gone to the war, most everybody has gone to the war and that you know makes help scarce…"; some edge wear, F.-V.F. and attractive patriotic use with enclosure.

Walcott No. 1058.
