Confederacy, From the Adams Express Company, Louisville, Ky., circular handstamp (Dietz type I) on U.S. 1853, 3¢ Nesbitt entire to Gordonsville, Va., in combination with oval "Adams Express Company, Knoxville, Tenn." date stamp, manuscript "25¢ postage due" express rate notation at top; slight rough opening at left, F.-V.F., a very rare and most likely unique combination usage of this rare Adam's Louisville handstamp in combination with the Knoxville oval date stamp.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

We known of only one other cover and a front bearing this Louisville handstamp.

Confederacy, Southern Express Co., Chattanooga Tenn., Jul 7, double-circle datestamp on yellow cover bearing uncancelled 5¢ blue (4) pair to Abington Va., endorsed "Paid", docketed "Bishop, July 9/62" at left; cover stain and some faults, Fine; with 1998 C.S.A. certificate declining opinion on pair originating.
Estimate    $300 - 400.
