The printing stones used for the blue Stone 2 stamps were prepared from the same transfer stone as the green Stone 2 stamps. The printing stone arrangement is the same for both stamps: two panes of 100 consisting of two transfer stone units of 50 for a sheet of 200 stamps.

Robert Bingham (1838-1927) was a Captain in Company G 44th Regiment of the N.C. Vols (McRae's Brigade) Heth's Division, A.P. Hills Corps in the Army of Northern Va. Capt. Brigham was captured at South Santa Anna Bridge on June 26th 1863 and held as prisoner of war at Johnsons Island, Fort Delaware, and Point Lockout, from which he was pardoned and sent to City Point Va. for exchange on April 22nd 1864. He must have received this letter the same day and due to the shortage of paper, turned and reused.
