Confederacy, 1863, 10¢ blue, tied by "Richmond Va., Aug 22, 1863" cds on adversity cover made from illustrated Charles Vandemark Portable Fences advertising circular to Sunny Side, Cumberland County, Va., original letter datelined "Dispatch Office, Richmond Aug. 21, 1863" asking for the purchase of a farm; some faults including cut for display, Very Fine.

This is a striking piece demonstrating the chronic paper shortage in the South. Poor quality paper has provided a short pencil letter and an advertising sheet for fencing used as an envelope.

A rare signed Member of Congress signed cover from one George Representative to another in the first Congressional Congress (the two-year congressional term ran from Feb. 18, 1862 until Feb. 18, 1864.

Oct 18" cds on adversity cover made from pre-war Post Office blank registered letters form to Williamsboro N.C., original enclosure from Captain R.A. Jenkins of the N.C. First Class Honor Guard, Militia unit dateline "Camp Near Goldboro N.S., Oct - 18th /64" and reads in part, "…Although I shall have to make it a short note as it is raining and we have no tents and we are taking the weather like so many cattle. We all are cheerful however and enjoy ourselves no little though we are down in a swampy place where the water will stand though it rains much…direct to Captain North Carolina first class Holme guard, Col Coles Regiment near Goldsboro N.C…"; flap cut for display, Very Fine.
