Lot 2892 ()   

Mexico, Porte de Mar 1875, 20c small figures, top right margin block of 27, showing indentations from a 1877 consignment number setting used on the regular issue 1874 Hidalgo issues, accompanied by a Postage Due 1875, 60c large figure single (JX24) with printed "38-77" consignment numbers on reverse which correspond to the indentations on block, couple vertical creases in block between stamps, Very Fine, an intriguing item for the collector of the 1874 issue.

Surplus sheets of the Porte de Mar issue were used as padding and trial printings of the 1877 consignments numbers of the 1874-79 regular issues. These trial printings are also known on the reverse of the 12c small figures (including Mexico 1-77).

Mexico, Porte de Mar 1875, 5c large figures, Veracruz, block of 10, postmarked "Veracruz Sept 27, 1875" and "N. York Steamship Dec 19, 1875", ample to large margins, couple small repaired internal holes, otherwise Very Fine, one of the crowns in the award winning Schimmer exhibit, ex-Vanotti, Shelton & Schimmer; with 2001 M.E.P.S.I. certificate.
