California Penny Post Co., 1855-59, 7¢ black, impressed on U.S. 3¢ envelope (No. U10), on 3¢ Nesbitt (U10) buff entire cancelled by "San Francisco, Cal, 2 Oct" cds addressed to local street address, reverse with explanatory text listing nine cities and towns where service was offered printed on reverse; some edge wear and light creasing, F.-V.F.

Denver and Rio Grande Express (DEN-001), black frank on 1887, 2¢ green (U311) entire to San Francisco Cal., cancelled by blue "Ogden U.T." straightline, an Extremely Fine gem from Utah Territory.

The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad ran this express service as part of their rail service over the railroad lines throughout Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

Lot 1048    

Gregory's Express Office, San Francisco, clear strike of blue three-line handstamp (GRE-111) on c. 1852-53 folded letter to Baltimore, Md., with matching "Paid" on oval handstamp; edge tone spot at top center, Very Fine, a rare example of this Gregory's three-line handstamp type, with only seven examples recorded in the Thomas census with this example not recorded.
Estimate    $200 - 300.

The ship that conveyed this letter to the eastern seaboard may have gone directly to Baltimore since there is no indication of mailing or private carriage from New York.

W.E. Singer & Cos., Express, Feather River., sharp strike of blue oval handstamp on January 20th 1854 edition of the San Francisco Daily Herald, no address, content includes Contra Costa Ferry steamboat advertisement, Very Fine and choice, a rare use of the Singer Express oval on a newspaper.
