1859 (Sep. 23) Newark N.J. to Callao, Peru, buff cover with red "New N.J., Paid, Sep 23" cds and matching "22" cent rating, New York red "12" credit handstamp, British P.O. "Panama, OC 14 1859" double-arc transit; bit of part missing, Very Fine.

1859 (Sep. 23) Fountain City Wis. to Tuncomalee, East Indies (Ceylon), forwarded to India, cover with "Fountain City, 23 Sep Wis." origin cds and matching "Paid" circle handstamp with ms. "30" rating within and "¼ of ounce" below, endorsed "p. French Mail", partial red "New York 'Paid' Oct 1" exchange cds and magenta "21" cent credit rating, French (10.14.59) transit cds and matching "P.D." framed handstamp, Marseilles (10.16) transit backstamp, forwarded upon arrival to Calcutta, India and finally Bombay, various backstamps including Bombay (11.13), Calcutta (12.14, 12.15), G.P.O. (12.21) etc plus some ms. ratings including "4A", Very Fine and rare use to Ceylon forwarded to India.

1859 (Dec. 26) Key West Fla. to London, England, cover bearing 12¢ black (36) block of four, with right centerline selvage, on reverse prepaying double the 24¢ treaty rate, cancelled by red "Key West Fla., Paid, Dec 26" cds and matching strike on face, red New York "6" credit handstamp to G.B., carried Havre Line Arago from New York Jan. 7th to Southampton arriving Jan. 20th, red London Paid (1.21) arrival cds; cover faulty with toning, Fine.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The block of 12¢ is a good illustration of the perforated centerline variety of the 12¢ perforated Plate No. 1. Jim Allen plated the block as: 29L1-30L1, 39L1-40L1.

1860 (Feb. 14) Washington D.C. to London, England, blue datelined folded letter bearing 12¢ black (36) block of four tied by strikes of "Washington D.C., Feb 14, 1860" cds, New York exchange office red "38" cents credit to G.B., carried on Cunard Line Asia departing New York Feb. 15th to Liverpool arriving Feb. 27th, red London Paid (2.27) arrival cds; faint horizontal crease across top of block, otherwise Very Fine and spectacular double-rate treaty rate franking.
Estimate    $2,000 - 3,000.

Am. Pkt. '24' Aug 9 1860" exchange due cds; small edge tear, Very Fine and scarce Portland exchange cds, ex-Hugh Feldman.

British open-mail letter rate to the U.S. under the 1858 Anglo-Spanish postal convention, sent overland through France via the Spanish exchange office (Junquera Aug. 23 backstamp), red London Paid (8.25) transit cds, carried by Cunard Line America from Liverpool Aug. 25th to Boston arriving Sep. 8th, bold "Boston Br. Pkt. '5' Sep 8" exchange due cds; small tear at top, missing part of backflap, Fine.

1860-61 (Oct. 10, Mar. 6) France to Buffalo N.Y., two folded letter by Cunard Line from Liverpool to the U.S. from the same correspondence five months apart, both endorsed to be sent from France by the Cunard Line, one with correct "Br Service" framed handstamp and other with incorrect "Am Service", both bearing France 80c carmine and red "Boston, Paid 15" exchange cds, Very Fine exhibit pair, ex-Feldman.
