Carrol, U.States Consular Agent at St. Helena" forwarder's endorsement on reverse, carried by private ship, entered mails with light strike of red "Salem Mas. Mar 25" cds and matching "Ship" handstamp with red manuscript "12½" cent rating, Very Fine.

1842 (Jun. 12) Singapore to Glastonbury Ct. via India and Antwerp, datelined folded letter sent in care of Borthers Nottebohn at Antwerp, with black "Calcutta Ship Letter" framed backstamp, G.P.O. Bombay transit backstamp and red "INDIA" oval, red framed "Paquebot de la Méditerranéen" and small framed "PF" handstamps, reverse with Marseille (8.30) and blue Bruxelles (9.3) transits, and red Anvers (9.3) arrival cds, manuscript "Forwarded by Brothers Nottebohn, Antwerp 7th September 1842" forwarder's endorsement, red Antwerp (9.7) cds, carried transatlantic as endorsed by Belgium British Queen from Antwerp Sep. 7th to New York arriving Sep. 28th, red "New-York, Ship, Sep 28" cds and blue manuscript "14½" cent rating for 12½¢ inland plus 2¢ ship fee, forwarded to Northampton Mass. with manuscript "Glastonbury Ct Oct 1" postmark and matching "10" cent rating, various additional ratings, debits and credits, Very Fine.

A REMARKABLE TRANSATLANTIC FOLDED LETTER FROM SINGAPORE VIA INDIA AND BELGIUM, CARRIED TRANSATLANTIC ON THE FINAL VOYAGE OF THE BELGIAN "BRITISH QUEEN".

This cover took a remarkable journey from Singapore to the United States. Some interesting content including "…You will learn soon enough the disaterour termination of the Voyage in the "New Orleans". We sprung a heavy leak while taking in cargo on the West Coast of Sumatra, before getting the ship quite full of pepper, was obliged to hear for some port for examination and repairs. This port being the nearest which gave facilities for such repairs as should be found necessary to … the final object of the Voyage… The extent of repairs, was estimated much greater than the value of the ship in the best condition. She was therefore order to be sold…" and postscript reads "I sail for Antwerp with the cargo of the New Orleans in an English Bark called the William Mitchel".

States Consul" forwarder's endorsement (affected slightly upon opening), sent by private ship, entered mails with red "Edgartown Ms. Dec 20" cds and manuscript "20¾" rating for 18¾¢ inland plus 2¢ ship fee, forwarded to Northampton Mass. with manuscript "Glastonbury Ct Dec 27" postmark and "10" cent rating, Very Fine.
