Mar. 23" cds on cover to Providence R.I.; some gum staining around stamp, missing backflap, Fine.

THE FINEST RECORDED STRIKE OF THIS BROOKLYN FANCY PATRIOTIC CANCEL.

The Skinner Eno tracing for this cancel is not as sharp as the strike here, which clearly shows an additional star at the top of the shield. This cancel is known used at two towns: Brooklyn N.Y. and South Norwalk Ct.

AN EXCEPTIONAL STRIKE OF THE FAMOUS "GIN" BARREL FANCY CANCEL OF CHICAGO.

The Chicago "Gin" Barrel is one of the best known and most distinctive of fancy cancellations used during the Bank Note era. It is know used only in September-October 1873.
