Cheney & Co's Express, Boston, gold on black circular die cut label (Mosher CHYX-L1) on cover to Boston, Mass., with manuscript endorsement "Cheney & Co. Express" at lower left, faint "2/" bit (25¢) rating at right, pencil "Lebanon" (N.H.) origin docketing at left, reverse with "Dec 19/50" docketing, Very Fine; with 2016 P.F. certificate.

(Express Mail) 1845 (Feb. 26) New Haven Ct. to Mobile Ala., gray folded letter with red "New Haven Ct Feb 26" cds and matching "Paid" scroll fancy handstamp with magenta "50" rating, blue manuscript "Express" endorsement at top left and red crayon; light central fold toning, F.-V.F.
Estimate    $400 - 600.

This is a very rare example of the revival of express service from 1836-1839 that last only three months. Announced January 29th 1845 in New York and discontinued March 10th 1845. This was only along some of the original route.

Kinsley & Co's Express, Philada., blue shield corner card on orange buff money cover to New York N.Y., endorsed "Remittance $75 from J Morrell - a/c of Jany. 1858", red wax Morrell backstamp; some surface abrasion affects c.c., F.-V.F.
Estimate    $300 - 400.

James Morrell Jr. was a clerk, and later superintendent, for Kinsley & Co. starting around 1856 through 1868.
