Oregon City, Orgn, Jul 7, bold red cds on 1858 folded letter to Mrs J. Dickson in London, England, red straight line "Paid" handstamp and magenta manuscript "29¢" rate above, red London entry cds, Very Fine, a very scarce foreign destination usage from Oregon territory.
Estimate    $500 - 750.

The addressee, Mrs. John Dickson, was the widow of a hunter involved in establishing the Hudson Bay Company in the territory. He was encountered by Lewis & Clark and is mentioned in their journals.

Oregon Cover Balance, of 6 covers; with 12¢ Banknote tied on legal size cover from Astoria to Portland, two 1853 covers with lengthy original enclosures from Albany, Ogn. to Wisconsin (Conner correspondence), others incoming including 1857 10¢ green (31) franked cover Burlington, Iowa to Washington Butte, uprated Wells, Fargo & Co. entire to Cascade Locks entering the mails in San Francisco, and 1855 New Haven, Conn. Free usage to Tualatin; condition mixed, a Fine group.
