1861, 30¢ orange, used with 3¢ rose (65) and 12¢ black (69), all cancelled by four-ring cancel, matching "Camp Dennison, O., Miamiville, Jun 19, 1865" origin cds on orange cover to Hon. James Monroe, American Consul at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, red "N.York Am. Pkt., Paid, Jun 24" exchange cds and matching "24" credit handstamp to G.B., red London Paid (7.5) transit cds; 30¢ small flaws, a Very Fine use at the 45¢ treaty rate via British mail to Brazil.

Camp Dennison was a Union training camp near Miamiville Oh. James Monroe (1821-1898) was the U.S. Consul to Rio de Janeiro (1863-69) and later U.S. Representative from Ohio (1871-79).

1863, 2¢ black, used with 3¢ rose (65) horizontal strip of five, each stamp manuscript canceled on reverse of 1868 orange cover to Bergen, Norway overpaying the direct 16¢ N.G.U. rate by 1¢, matching manuscript "San Jacinto P.O., Minn., Augt. 21st, 1868" origin postmark, partial red Hamburg Franco framed transit, and red "9" credit handstamp tying strip, red crayon rating, 1868 original enclosure; light cover edge wear and tiny tear in 2¢, Skien (9.11) transit backstamp, Fine and rare 1861 use to Norway.

'40' 8 Aug" credit cds, additional red "Boston Br. Pkt. 'Paid' 8 Aug" cds on reverse, red London Paid (8.19) transit cds and matching "1d" cre1865 London transit which also ties two stamps, Hong Kong and receiving backstamps, one 10c with piece missing at bottom and another with s.e. at right, otherwise Very Fine, attractive franking paying the 45c British Mail rate via Southampton, Very Fine.
