Norma via New York" at top, bold strike of red "Forwarded from Harnden's, New York" oval handstamp, carried as endorsed by Cunard Britannia from Boston to Liverpool arriving Dec. 15th, Liverpool "L, America" oval handstamp, manuscript "4/-" shilling due rating, Very Fine.

Lot 1577    

Cuba, (Cunard Line) 1863 (Dec. 26) London, England to Havana, Cuba, folded letter bearing G.B. 2d blue, 3d rose, and 1s green (2) prepaying the double 2s5d rate, all tied by "12" grid cancel, matching London (12.26) backstamp, carried as endorsed by Cunard Line Africa from Liverpool Dec. 27th to New York arriving Jan. 9th, then carried by Cunard Line Corsica on the alternative route via Nassau to Havana, Havana arrival backstamp and framed "NE2" due handstamp, Very Fine and scarce via the Cunard transatlantic and Caribbean routes.
Estimate    $250 - 350.

This is a scarce routing since it is 5d more expensive than the direct routing via Southampton. The extra 5d (10¢) is due to the United States. The "NE2" should have been "NE4" for double the 2 Real local charge.

Cuba, (Cunard Line) 1872 (Oct. 11) Havana, Cuba to Buenos Ayres, Argentina via New York and London, blue folded letter with "Sama, Sotolongo Y Ca., Habana" forwarder handstamp and endorsed "via Liverpool", sent privately to New York, then by Cunard Line Java from New York to Liverpool, forwarded by Fesser Utoh Co. with G.B. 1s green tied by bold "London, OC 11 82" duplex prepaying the 1s packet rate to Buenos Ayres, Buenos Ayres blue crayon "2/4" inland due rating, Very Fine and unusual use.
