Graded certificate (XF-Sup 95J, SMQ $3,150).

1861, 5¢ orange brown, type II, deep rich color with wide margins, used with 10¢ green (35) with right s.e., each cancelled by neat small "Paid" straightline on 1861 cover to Paris, France, matching "Milton Ms. Sep 23" cds, red "Boston 'Paid 12' Sep 24" exchange cds, carried by Cunard Line Africa from New York Sep. 25th to Queenstown arriving Oct. 5th, red Calais (10.8) transit with matching small "PD" framed handstamp, Paris (10.8) arrival backstamp, Extremely Fine.

Moore, Agricultural Book Publisher, New York" cameo corner card, additional strike of "New York, Dec 20" ocean mail cds overstruck by "Dec 29" ocean mail cds, attractive and Very Fine, A scarce cameo corner card cover with New York ocean mail cds.

10¢ green, types I, II, III, IV, two vertical strips of three, types IV-III-I and II-III-I, tied by four strikes of "New Orleans La, Apr 20, 1858" on gray folded letter to Nantes, France, red "New York 'Paid 48' Apr 28" exchange cds, carried by Cunard Line Africa from New York Apr. 28th to Liverpool arriving May 10th, black "Et Unis Serv. Br. A.C., 10 Mai 58" entry cds, reverse with Paris (5.11) and Nantes (5.11) arrival; type IV trimmed at right, Very Fine.

ONE OF ONLY THREE RECORDED COVERS WITH ALL FOUR 10¢ 1857 ISSUE TYPES.

The postage paid four-times the 15¢ rate to France with a four-times the 12¢ credit to Great Britain for ocean carriage. There was a fourth cover with all four types, but the strip has since been removed from the cover and no longer exists.

1857, 10¢ green, types III-IV/I-I, positions 85-86/95-96L1, top right stamp recut at top, bottom pair Type I, well centered with rich color, cancelled by two strikes of New Orleans cds; faint wrinkle in left pair and few irregular perfs not noted in certificate, Extremely Fine, ex-Lutwak; with 1975 P.F. certificate.

THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS COMBINATION WITH TWO TYPE I'S. ONE OF THE FINEST OF THE FEW EXISTING 10¢ 1857 BLOCKS CONTAINING THE TYPE IV-I COMBINATION.

1857, 10¢ green, type IV-IV-I, vertical strip of three, positions 76/86/96L, top stamp recut at bottom, center stamp recut at top, used with two singles of 1¢ blue (24) and 3¢ dull red (26), each tied by open circular grid cancel, matching "Iowa City Iowa Apr. 25, 1859" cds on orange cover to Denmark, red "New-York Am. Pkt., Apr 30" exchange backstamp and matching "12" cent credit handstamp, red Aachen Franco (12.15) framed transit and magenta "f2" credit rating, Copenhagen-Hamburg (5.15) transit backstamp; one 1¢ stamp affixed over top edge of cover (cover opened on three-sides and refolded to show full stamp), top 10¢ stamp slightly rounded corner, Very Fine, ex-Grunin, Sevenoaks.

AN EXTRAORDINARY COVER BEARING AN 1857 10¢ STRIP CONTAINING TWO TYPE IV RECUT POSITIONS AND TYPE I FROM THE BOTTOM ROW.

There is only one sequence of positions that can produce a Type IV/I combination, positions 86/96L. This strip with the additional Type IV from position 76L is extraordinary, and Scott does not list this combination strip.

1859, 10¢ green, type V, two singles, used with 3¢ dull red (26) horizontal strip of five, tied by unusual circle of wedges cancels on reverse of 1861 cover to Elsinore, Denmark, neat "Geneva Ills. Jul 30, 1861" cds with year in manuscript, red "Chicago Ill. Am. Pkt., Paid, Aug 1" exchange cds and matching circled "12" credit handstamp, blue ms. "f 2" rating, reverse with Hamburg (8/17/61) oval transit and R.D.P.A. Hamburg (8.17) transit cds also tie 10¢ stamps, Helsingfors (8.18) arrival cds; barely reduced at left, Very Fine and choice, ex-Sevenoaks, Lake Shore.

"28" credit rating to G.B., light London Paid (5.13) cds and matching red "1d" credit handstamp also ties strip; slightly reduced at left, left 10¢ two pulled perfs, Very Fine, ex-Piller; with 2017 P.F. certificate.
