1863, 2¢ black, tied by bold strike of vivid red Star within Circle fancy cancel duplexed with "New York City, Sep 20" cds on all-over shaded ad cover from Benedict & Boardman Law Office to local New York City address, docketed "Sept. 1866" at left, an Extremely Fine gem.

1861, 3¢ scarlet, full o.g., four horizontal black pen strokes, well centered for this notoriously off centered issue, rich brilliant color, Very Fine; with 1981 and 1989 P.F. certificates.
Scott No. 74    $5,500.

The Washington D.C. stamp dealer Carl F. Rothfuchs obtained a quantity of these stamps in 1893 and sold them bearing the four horizontal pen marks.
